VoIP For Small Businesses and Internet Telephony

The Internet can be used as a transmission medium for telephone calls by a category of software and hardware known as Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP. VoIP is used to send voice data in packets instead of the normal POTS circuits. Internet users using VoIP will find it especially beneficial because they will not be surcharged beyond what they have to pay as access fee; much in the same way that people are not charged for sending mails online.

Because VoIP is basically used for internet telephone calls, it is also referred to as "Voice over IP ". VoIP has two major motivations viz cost and convenience because it is less expensive than regular phone packages and offer high speed internet that can serve multiple telephone lines.

Below are some of the benefits of VoIP: Telephone calls will be more affordable: I guess no one will refuse the opportunity of making phone calls at cheap rate slip by.

The fee you pay depends on the service provider; there are some that charge a small fee, others can also charge zero amounts for the same service. It's possible to get additional features at no charge at all:

Features others provide for a fee are often offered for free with VoIP services. The free VoIP features are Voicemail, Call Forwarding, Call Transfer, Call Waiting, etc. You can also get great business features like email and web utilities for nothing.

One other good advantage of VoIP is it gives you the opportunity to pick your phone numbers and area codes. What this is saying goes like this; you have to transfer your old number into a new VoIP service if you want to continue to maintain it, but if you don’t want to go through the trouble, then you can simply choose a new one but based on the area code.

There it is, Voice Over Internet Telephone systems should now be something you now have a basic understanding of. The question is, do you trust it to use it in your business, or maybe even just at home? VoIP is a technology which is destined to follow so many other technologies which the internet has supplanted. One day the ability for VoIP will also probably be solved. Traditional phone systems are going to always cost more when you consider that the internet telephony provider has all the advantages of simply using the internet communications systems which are already set up. You owe it to yourself and you company to spend the time to research the VoIP advantages for you company or home.
